In fulfilment of his role as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for the Ocean, Ambassador Peter Thomson will travel the world, in person and virtually, leading global advocacy to galvanize political momentum, convene stakeholders and mobilize action in support of the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14 (SDG14) to conserve and sustainably use the resources of the ocean. He will work for greater awareness of the causes of the decline in the ocean’s health and advance the means to reverse the decline.
Rationale for OCDI: Ambassador Thomson is one of the most prominent voices for international ocean issues, and a major proponent of further action. His activities help elevate ocean climate issues across the diplomatic space.
